What our Stockton customers say about Sherpa:
“Sherpa was very responsive. They quoted me a rate that was competitive and held their rate even as I was waiting for my car financing to come through, which was 2-3 weeks later. Once I gave them the thumbs up to pick up my car from the dealer in Stockton, they found a driver within three days to deliver the vehicle to Portland within two days, exceeding my expectations. Highly recommend.”
“I checked ConsumerAffairs, and that helped me decide on maybe giving Sherpa a try. The lady I spoke to was very friendly, helpful and able to answer my questions. I felt comfortable talking to her, so I decided to go ahead and give them a try, and it worked out good. They found me a carrier that did an excellent job getting my car to Florida. I was very pleased with the service.”
“Sherpa picked up the car and they walked me through what they were gonna do and what they were looking for. When they dropped the car off, they again walked through everything and what was on the car. They were really friendly and helpful. The quote seemed reasonable too. They drove the car across the country and I didn`t have to. So, it was good.”

When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Stockton Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from Stockton, CA. Longer distances typically result in higher prices, but the per-mile rate often decreases for longer trips.
- Transport Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to Stockton. Enclosed carriers offer extra protection but are about 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
- Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship to Stockton due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Route Popularity: Stockton’s location near major highways like I-5 and I-580 can affect pricing. More frequent routes often have competitive rates due to higher demand.
- Seasonal Factors: Stockton’s hot, dry summers and mild winters can influence car shipping prices. Peak moving seasons, typically summer months, may see higher rates due to increased demand.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Terminal-to-terminal shipping in Stockton is often cheaper than door-to-door service, but less convenient.
- Vehicle Condition: Non-running vehicles cost more to ship to Stockton as they require special equipment for loading and unloading.
- Timeframe: Flexible pickup and delivery dates often result in lower car shipping costs to Stockton. Rush or guaranteed delivery services are available but at a premium.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping a car to or from Stockton, CA. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Stockton car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Open car shipping is usually more affordable than enclosed transport. It offers greater flexibility for negotiating lower rates.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find convenient locations near major interstates like I-5 or CA-99. This can reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your price.
- Lighten your load: Remove personal items from your vehicle before shipping. This reduces weight and potential liability issues.
- Be flexible: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates. Consider terminal locations in nearby cities like Sacramento or Modesto if it leads to cost savings.
- Consider seasonal timing: Auto transport to Stockton may be more affordable during off-peak seasons when demand is lower. Avoid peak moving times if possible.
- Opt for terminal-to-terminal: While Sherpa specializes in door-to-door service, discussing nearby terminal options might reveal additional savings opportunities for your Stockton car shipping needs.

For vehicle-related matters, California requires all cars to pass a smog check before registration. If you’re bringing a car from out-of-state, you’ll need to complete this within 20 days of arrival. The FasTrak toll system is used in the Bay Area, so remember to remove your transponder before auto transport to avoid unexpected charges.

Stockton, California Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Stockton?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Stockton. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Stockton?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Stockton?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Stockton?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Stockton
When planning car shipping to or from Stockton, CA, it’s crucial to consider the city’s unique climate and seasonal factors. Stockton experiences a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Here are some practical tips to ensure a smooth auto transport experience:
- Summer Considerations: With temperatures often exceeding 90°F (32°C) from June to September, protect your vehicle during car transport. Use a sunshade under the windshield to prevent interior damage. Remove heat-sensitive items that might melt or warp.
- Winter Precautions: While Stockton rarely sees snow, winter rains can make roads slippery. Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to prevent issues with icy surfaces. Remove snow tires or chains before shipping a car, as carriers can’t transport vehicles with these installed.
- Fog Season: Stockton is known for its dense winter fog, typically from November to February. This can delay car shipping services, so plan for potential schedule changes during these months.
- Agricultural Peak Times: As an agricultural hub, Stockton sees increased traffic during harvest seasons, particularly in late summer and early fall. This may affect auto transport schedules and availability.
- University Move-In/Out: With the University of the Pacific in town, expect increased demand for car transport services in late August and early June. Consider scheduling your car shipping a few weeks before or after these peak times for better rates and availability.
By keeping these factors in mind, you can ensure a more efficient and cost-effective experience when using car shipping services in Stockton, CA. Always communicate with your chosen car shipping company about any specific concerns related to seasonal conditions or local events that might impact your auto transport.
Car Shipping for College Students in Stockton, California
When considering car shipping to Stockton, California for college, it’s crucial to understand parking logistics. At University of the Pacific, students need a parking permit, which can be purchased online. Most on-campus housing includes parking, but off-campus students should verify parking availability with their landlords. For San Joaquin Delta College, parking permits are required and can be obtained through the campus police office. Both institutions offer long-term parking options for winter breaks, but it’s best to confirm availability in advance. While Stockton’s mild climate doesn’t necessitate snow tires, students should ensure their auto transport or personal vehicle is equipped for occasional heavy rain. Before finalizing your car shipping services, verify that your insurance and roadside assistance coverage extend to Stockton. Lastly, if you’re planning to ship a car to campus, coordinate with your car shipping company to determine the best drop-off location, as some areas may have restrictions on large vehicle access.

Reviews from our California Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied California customers:
“Great experience! Shipping a car is so stressful. There are so many companies out there that try to give low ball quotes, and when you call them they will not guarantee the rate. You think you can get a good deal just to find out they raise their price or don`t respond to your phone calls. The whole process makes you lose sleep especially when you have a limited window of time to get the car shipped. I used Sherpa in May to ship a car with no issues. Then I thought I could do the return trip on my own by arranging the transport myself and save a little money. What a mistake! The shippers I spoke to promised low rates then said no guarantee if the route doesn`t get picked up, another shipper said he would do it then never responded to my calls. I was seriously losing sleep over it. So I said, ” This is absurd I am calling Sherpa again.” This was my second time using Sherpa. I called Sherpa and had my vehicle picked up in a few days. The transporter was responsive to my phone calls and delivered on time as promised. The Sherpa team did a great job they are all professional and friendly. They reassured me that I gave them enough notice to get the car shipped and I was priced right to have someone pick it up. I did not have to worry about the price once they gave me the quote because they guaranteed it. If a shipper needs more money to pick up the car, Sherpa contributes the difference. I really let them do all the work. Excellent service. I will never try to find my own shipper again and definitely stick with Sherpa.”
“I was shipping the vehicle from Lake Charles to California, Stockton and Sherpa responded to an email that I requested. They gave me a quote and it was a done deal. I paid the amount that they gave me and there were no cut corners. The rep took the vehicle on Wednesday and I got it on Sunday. It was a good experience and I would recommend Sherpa to a friend.”
“We relocated from the West Coast to the East Coast with two vehicles, so we needed to use a transport service. Sherpa Auto Transport transported one from Mountain View, California to Boston and the second one was from Salt Lake City to Green Bay, Wisconsin. We were supposed to drive across the country, but our trip was interrupted by a death in the family. Sherpa arranged the transport in 24 hours and picked the car up in Salt Lake City at the hotel. We went to the funeral and the car met us in Green Bay a few days later. I had originally booked with another company two months in advance, but on the day of the transport, they were nowhere to be found. We had already paid them and they had assigned a driver. The driver called me on the day of the pick up and said that he was not scheduled to be there for two more days. We were flying out to drop our son off at college, so we were stuck. They said not to worry and that they would take care of it. They notified us the next day that they had picked the vehicle up. We got home two days later and found that the car in the driveway had not been picked up. The driver told me that he was gonna pick it up first thing in the morning and when I called back the next morning, I said that the car was still on the driveway, but the driver reported that he picked it up an hour ago. That company was a disaster. I called Sherpa because they had such a high review. They arranged the transport on the same day on an emergency basis, got a driver, and picked the car up and took it to Boston. That bailed us out of a bad situation and it went well. They kept us informed. We couldn’t even get the other company to answer the phone, but Sherpa always answered the phone and they always knew where the car was and gave us updates. I dealt with a different person for each of the transport. After we shipped the first car, we had a second car and we were driving that one across the country a week later. We got on the road, but five days into the trip, my wife’s mother died in Wisconsin, so we had to interrupt the trip and we dealt with another Sherpa person who picked the car up and arranged it all. They took the problem out of our hands and solved it. They bailed us out twice in a row, two weeks apart. There were two separate women who did a phenomenal job and they did the moves on an emergency basis for the same price that was my original quote from the other company. They felt bad for my situation with my mother-in-law and they gave me a $50 discount. The cost was great and finding a driver on two occasions in a day was phenomenal. I had moved vehicles across the country before over my career and this was the easiest move that I have done. Everything happened flawlessly.”
“I had used Sherpa before. They were not the least expensive but they were reliable which is more important. I had a very bad experience many years ago and reliability is my most important criterion. United was the transport company at that time and they had driven my car. They delivered my car with not even enough gas to get to a gas station. It had 500 extra miles on it before, which was a lot of mileage. United offered me 31 cents a mile for the usage. The problem is there are no laws that govern this industry. Once you hand your car over, the company can literally do whatever they want with it. I paid a lot of money to have my car transported from California to DC. I tried to take United to court. I took the case as far as I could take it. After the attorneys told me there was nothing to do, I even took it to one of those over the radio shows. Once United said they offered me 31 cents a mile, everything was apparently taken care of. That was legal. All they have to do is offer you what the IRS considers the cost of usage. I used Sherpa`s services again this time and everything went well. DC did not allow them to enter the city with their trucks so they really worked with me in finding a place where I could make the exchange and that was convenient for me. Their people were very nice. They insisted on making sure that I wrote the mileage down. Even though I knew that didn`t really matter, at least they were very diligent. Sherpa was super because I had an event where I wasn`t able to meet them. My wallet had been stolen and I had to leave before my date. I left my car at the hotel with the keys at the desk with instructions and got on a plane. A guy came to pick up the car. He filled out all the forms and took the keys from the front desk. The guy then called me to say he got my car and that he would see me in a week, which he did. With Sherpa, there is a level of security. I didn`t even have to be there for the transition. That`s the security you`re looking for because there`s no consumer protection legally in this industry. You need to have somebody who really intends and takes good care of you. I needed that at that time. Sherpa did a wonderful job. Sherpa delivered my car on time and didn`t charge me extra. A friend of mine had an experience where the transport company said the charge initially made was not enough and they were not giving the car to my friend until another $350 was paid.”
“I did an internet search and looked at Sherpa and some other transport companies. I saw some pretty good reviews and I also read the different policies of how the companies work. When I called Sherpa first, I was very impressed with the young man that I spoke to. He explained everything very well. Other competitors weren`t as good at explaining everything. I know that they put out bids and contract with independent contractors and I happen to use this GG Line LLC. They gave windows on what day the car would be picked up and what day it would be delivered. The window for pickup was either Thursday, October 1st, or Friday, October 2nd and it was actually picked up about 9:30 AM on October 1st, the first day, Thursday. Then they gave me the window for delivery of being either Tuesday through Friday of the following week. When the driver picked it up on that Thursday, I asked him when the car would arrive in Illinois, and he said Monday. That wasn`t a problem for me because the car was being delivered to my girlfriend`s condo. But then I got a call on Sunday morning from the driver that he was getting ready to deliver the car. They were in Illinois. He called my girlfriend also `cause he had her number `cause I told him that she would pick up the car. There was no problem because my girlfriend was there. But let`s say I was doing this by myself and I had gone by the windows. I would just think that since it will come on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, I`ll get there on Monday, and I`ll be there on time. I would have missed the pickup because he said he actually got it there on Sunday. That was a big miss on the window by two days. There should be a little more clarity on the actual window. But it was nice that it was very efficient and it came quickly. My girlfriend accepted the car and gave the driver the check. The driver was interesting. When he called me, he had a Chicago area code, and he was very nice. When he picked up the car, I could tell that from his accent that he was probably a Polish immigrant. There`s a lot of Polish immigrants in Chicago, and so I assumed the way it worked is this was his route from Los Angeles to Chicago, Chicago to Los Angeles hauling car. But he was certainly understandable. When he dropped off the car, he parked in a lot of a shopping center about two blocks away then he drove the car right to the condo location, where the car was dropped off in Westmont.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Stockton, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of California. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
