What our Saratoga customers say about Sherpa:
“Outstanding service by you folks! Thank you to Favio (driver) who came on time and delivered the car across the country on time as promised. Favio replied to family texts from time to time during the travel and delivered the car to our daughter near her apartment in Saratoga as promised.”
“We relocated from the West Coast to the East Coast with two vehicles, so we needed to use a transport service. Sherpa Auto Transport transported one from Mountain View, California to Boston and the second one was from Salt Lake City to Green Bay, Wisconsin. We were supposed to drive across the country, but our trip was interrupted by a death in the family.”
“I was making a big move from Michigan to California fresh out of college. Young, scared, and confused, I often found myself overwhelmed with the many vehicle transport options available. Frantically, I googled “best auto transport companies for cross-country moves” and stumbled upon Sherpa in a Forbes article.”

When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Saratoga Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The distance between Saratoga, CA and your destination greatly affects car shipping costs. Longer distances typically mean higher prices, but the cost per mile often decreases for longer journeys.
- Transport Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Saratoga. Enclosed transport, while about 50% pricier, offers extra protection for high-value vehicles against Silicon Valley’s occasional rain or road debris on nearby highways like I-280 or I-880.
- Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, cost more to ship than compact cars. This is due to the space they occupy on the carrier and their weight impact on fuel consumption.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Saratoga’s proximity to major cities like San Jose can affect pricing. Urban areas are generally cheaper for car shipping than rural locations. Consider meeting your carrier at a more accessible spot if you’re looking to reduce costs.
- Seasonal Demand: Car shipping prices to and from Saratoga may fluctuate with seasonal demand. Summer months and January often see higher rates due to increased relocation activity and snowbird migrations.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship as they can be driven onto the carrier. Inoperable cars require special equipment, increasing the cost.
- Flexibility: If your schedule is flexible, you might find better rates. Sherpa Auto Transport offers a cost-effective five-day pickup window, but expedited services are available at a premium for those with tight schedules.
Understanding these factors can help you plan your car shipping to or from Saratoga more effectively. For a detailed breakdown of car shipping costs, check out our car shipping calculator guide. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Saratoga car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Opt for open car shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find locations near major highways like I-280 or SR-85. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and lower your overall car shipping price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can help you secure better rates. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of more cost-effective auto transport options.
- Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer. Shipping your car to or from Saratoga during off-peak times can result in more competitive pricing.

New residents must register their vehicles within 20 days of establishing residency or accepting employment. Saratoga, being part of Santa Clara County, uses the FasTrak system for tolls. If you’re moving away, remember to remove your FasTrak transponder to avoid unnecessary charges.
For those shipping a car to Saratoga, be aware of the city’s parking regulations. While there are no specific resident parking permits, certain areas have time restrictions. The California smog check program is also important; most vehicles need a smog check every two years.

Saratoga, California Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Saratoga?

In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Saratoga?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Saratoga?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Saratoga
When planning car shipping to or from Saratoga, CA, it’s crucial to consider the area’s unique climate and seasonal factors. Saratoga experiences a Mediterranean climate with mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers. While extreme weather is rare, there are still important considerations for auto transport throughout the year.
During winter months (November to March), occasional heavy rains can occur. When scheduling car shipping services, ensure that pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to prevent any issues with wet or slippery surfaces. While snow is uncommon in Saratoga, nearby mountain areas may experience snowfall. If you’re shipping a car to or from these higher elevations, inform your car transport company about potential snow conditions.
Summers in Saratoga are warm and dry, with temperatures occasionally reaching the 90s Fahrenheit. When shipping a car during these months, consider using a sunshade to protect your vehicle’s interior. Also, avoid leaving heat-sensitive items in the car during transport, as temperatures inside the vehicle can rise significantly.
Saratoga’s proximity to Silicon Valley and several universities can affect auto transport schedules. The start and end of academic terms, typically in August/September and May/June, can lead to increased demand for car shipping. If possible, try to schedule your Saratoga car shipping a few weeks before or after these peak periods to ensure better availability and potentially lower rates.
Lastly, wildfire season (typically late summer to fall) can occasionally impact road conditions in the broader Bay Area. When booking car transport during this time, stay informed about any potential road closures or detours that might affect your auto transport timeline. By considering these factors, you can ensure a smooth and efficient car shipping experience to or from Saratoga, CA.
Reviews from our California Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied California customers:
“We searched for several weeks for a reliable and trustworthy auto transport company (with a fixed rate), and after research decided on Sherpa. We could not have had a better experience. Both Sherpa and the contracted transport company were outstanding and made the entire experience seamless and easy. Couldn’t recommend more. A+++.”
“My fiancée is a wizard when it comes to doing her due diligence and finding the best companies and reading reviews. I asked her to pull her magic and let me know what she thought, and Sherpa was in the top five transport companies and were actually the first ones to answer the phone or respond to my call. Joseph was the gentleman that I talked to. He was very professional and friendly. He made me feel very comfortable with using the company to broker the deal for me. Top Line Auto Service based out of California dropped the car off. The two brothers met me. I had spoken to Joseph on the phone, and figured out what direction they were coming from, which was east from Florida. And based on where I live, I gave them the best place that I thought would be the easiest to pull up an 18-wheeler, and with a truckload of cars, to offload it and meet them to where they could easily get back on the interstate again and go about their day without having to snake through city traffic.”
“I had used Sherpa before. They were not the least expensive but they were reliable which is more important. I had a very bad experience many years ago and reliability is my most important criterion. United was the transport company at that time and they had driven my car. They delivered my car with not even enough gas to get to a gas station. It had 500 extra miles on it before, which was a lot of mileage. United offered me 31 cents a mile for the usage. The problem is there are no laws that govern this industry. Once you hand your car over, the company can literally do whatever they want with it. I paid a lot of money to have my car transported from California to DC. I tried to take United to court. I took the case as far as I could take it. After the attorneys told me there was nothing to do, I even took it to one of those over the radio shows. Once United said they offered me 31 cents a mile, everything was apparently taken care of. That was legal. All they have to do is offer you what the IRS considers the cost of usage.”
“A couple years ago, my wife and I started living in two locations on two coasts. So, we split our time since we`re both retired both in Massachusetts and California. So, we had access to a car while we were here in California. Over the first few years, that car died after a long life. To give us greater flexibility, we decided to ship one of our two cars from Massachusetts to California for our flexibility here. All three estimates that I got were reasonably close to each other. I kicked the highest one out. I viewed this as transactions as long as they were rated reasonably well by previous users of the services. So, it narrowed down to Sherpa. At the end of the day, it turned out really silly. But it was the free car wash at the end.”
“Our daughter was moving from Florida to California for a transfer with her job and she needed to ship a 2010 Toyota RAV4. She looked at a few transport companies online and contacted one company. They took a deposit and sent the contract. But we didn’t like the terms of their contract at all and they didn’t have a very good rating on the Better Business Bureau. Then, we found Sherpa and we went with them. We’re very happy with our experience from start to finish. Their name is very cool and certainly good marketing on their part because it’s easy to remember.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Saratoga, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of California. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
