What our Rancho Santa Margarita customers say about Sherpa:
“Sherpa’s rep was very helpful and explained everything very well. The driver was very nice. I found out later from a neighbor that there is a weight limit even on the main street and that was a really big rig so I understand. The day my car arrived, it was really hot. The tachometer was jumping all over the place. The car made a weird noise when I would break so the next day, I took it to the Volkswagen dealership and they went over it with a fine tooth comb and said it was fine. Other than that, there were no dings and no dents. I’m very happy. I love my car.”
“Sherpa’s rep was very helpful and explained everything well. The driver texted me in Los Angeles and said he couldn’t make it to my neighborhood and that I would have to meet him in Montebello, California. That made me anxious but he called an Uber for me and it was easy. He was very nice. Other than that, there were no dings and no dents. I’m very happy. I love my car.”
“We had two cars to transport from south florida to San Diego. Sherpa guaranteed the first price quote in writing. They only work with insured vetted transporters. The experience with the transporter was incredible. The dispatcher called me a few days early and communicated the driver’s name and time window. The actual driver called me. He was an Angel! His truck was top notch and IMMACULATE!”

Factors that affect Rancho Santa Margarita Car Shipping Prices
- Distance and Route: The distance between Rancho Santa Margarita and the destination affects car shipping costs. Proximity to major highways like I-5 and I-405 can reduce prices, as carriers prefer easily accessible routes.
- Transport Type: Open car transport is the most common and cost-effective option for shipping vehicles to or from Rancho Santa Margarita. Enclosed transport, while offering extra protection, is typically 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
- Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, generally cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Seasonal Factors: Auto transport prices in Rancho Santa Margarita may fluctuate based on the time of year. Summer months and January typically see higher demand and prices due to increased relocation activity.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles that can roll, brake, and steer are less expensive to ship than inoperable ones, which require special equipment for loading and unloading.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Urban areas like nearby Irvine or Los Angeles often have lower shipping costs compared to more rural locations. Consider meeting your carrier at a convenient spot if you’re looking to reduce expenses.
- Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window, such as Sherpa’s five-business-day option, can result in more competitive pricing for your car shipping needs.
Rancho Santa Margarita’s mild Mediterranean climate generally allows for smooth car shipping operations year-round. However, during rare extreme weather events, enclosed transport might be recommended for added protection. How does Rancho Santa Margarita Car Shipping Work?
Navigating the car shipping process in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, requires careful planning and consideration of local factors. This picturesque city in Orange County experiences a Mediterranean climate, with warm, dry summers and mild winters. When shipping a car to or from Rancho Santa Margarita, keep these tips in mind:
- Get an instant quote: Start by obtaining a car shipping quote from a reputable auto transport company like Sherpa. Provide details about your vehicle, desired pickup and delivery locations, and preferred shipping method. For a hassle-free experience, visit our How to Ship a Car guide.
- Consider the weather: Rancho Santa Margarita’s mild climate is generally favorable for car transport. However, occasional Santa Ana winds can create dusty conditions. Consider enclosed transport to protect your vehicle from dust and debris during transit.
- Plan for traffic: The nearby 241 Toll Road and Interstate 5 are major routes for car shipping services. Be aware that traffic can be heavy during peak hours, which may affect pickup and delivery times.
- Prepare your vehicle: Before the carrier arrives, wash your car and document its condition. Remove personal items and ensure your gas tank is no more than a quarter full. This is especially important when shipping from Rancho Santa Margarita’s hilly terrain, as a lighter vehicle is easier to transport.
- Choose the right service: Opt for door-to-door service when possible, as Rancho Santa Margarita’s residential areas may have narrow streets. If you’re shipping a car to or from nearby business parks, discuss accessible pickup and drop-off points with your car shipping company.
- Stay informed: Once your vehicle is in transit, stay in touch with your auto transport provider for updates. Rancho Santa Margarita’s proximity to major cities like Los Angeles and San Diego can sometimes affect delivery times due to traffic congestion.
By following these steps and working with a reliable car transport service, you can ensure a smooth vehicle shipping experience to or from Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. Remember, proper planning and communication are key to successful auto transport in this beautiful Southern California city.
Rancho Santa Margarita Car Transport: Local Insights and Regulations

The process involves providing proof of ownership, completing a registration application, and passing a smog check for most vehicles.
For those using car transport services, remember to remove your FasTrak transponder before shipping. This toll collection device is used on Orange County’s toll roads, including those near Rancho Santa Margarita. Removing it ensures you won’t be charged for tolls during transport.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. Reviews from our California Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied California customers:
“I Googled the top 10 shipping companies, and Sherpa was number 2. I called the first one, and they didn’t answer, so I called Sherpa. They answered and they were really nice. They told me some information that others didn’t or tried to withhold, and that was pretty nice in terms of transparency. I’m glad that I was able to connect with Sherpa. Because there were some that called me to give me offers and there were some of them that were bad mouthing others. I appreciate it when I spoke with Sherpa that they weren’t like that. It was more so on the professional side and just trying to help me get my car to where it needed to go. The guy that came to get the car was really awesome. He’s even from Texas, so I knew that he was familiar with the area. Communication was awesome as well. On his way to Cali, he kept me notified every half hour or so. When he got to the pickup location, he was pretty respectful in terms of not wanting to drive the big vehicle into this gated community, because a lot of them parked their cars outside along the road. I met the driver outside and he loaded my car with very good care and got it to Texas in less than the time I was told. I didn’t make it the the delivery location before he did, and he even helped out my family. My car is manual, and my parents didn’t know how to do that, so he was nice enough to help put it in the garage for them. Overall, it was a great experience and if I needed another vehicle transported, I would definitely go with Sherpa.”
“I’ve had horrible experiences making calls a 2 yrs ago, planning a move and needing my car shipped. I was getting hammered for a couple weeks by annoying calls, texts, and emails from many transport companies that didn’t seem legit. Fast forward, my moving plans fell through, and this time around, I took my time researching for reliable transport companies. I stumbled upon Sherpa reviews here, which made me more comfortable and confident to call, needing my car shipped from San Diego to Florida. Customer service was excellent with my first call, explained how transport works, they aren’t like the companies that have hundreds of random people calling, texting, and emailing, asked for a window date I needed my car picked up, and got a quote done. I felt great after the call. Communication was top notch from customer service to the driver. 2 weeks later, I got a call from the driver letting me know what day and time he’s arriving. The driver actually arrived a day or 2 earlier that was on a Sunday, which wasn’t a problem. I took pics of the outside and inside my car. The driver took pics as well, including pics of my car being loaded on the truck that were also sent to me through text message. The driver was very detailed, and told me he’ll have updates in the next couple days. That Wednesday morning, the driver sent me a text with a picture of his truck that had other cars on it, and said my car will be delivered early in the morning Thursday! I was impressed how fast shipping was! That Thursday, a family was contacted by the driver for delivery. The delivery was very smooth, recieved a pic of my car in a nearby parking lot due to his truck being too big for residential areas that was less than 1 mile away. My family member retrieved my car after doing an inspection with the driver. No scratches or damages whatsoever! Received the bill of lading afterwards. It’s nice having your car at its final destination before I fly out! I’m very impressed with this company! I highly recommend Sherpa!”
“We were moving from California to Florida with two vehicles and pets, and a transport was easier with traveling with animals. Sherpa’s agent was easy to work with and very knowledgeable. I did the quote online and I screenshotted it. But then, I had questions so I called. The gentleman I talked to was super nice and he gave me a quote which was higher. I gave him my original quote and asked if he’d be able to match the rate. And he matched the online rate. They were supposed to pick up on a Monday, and they ended up picking up on a Sunday, but they called ahead of time the day before and let us know. Then, we had to bring the vehicles to a larger intersection because the roads were too windy for the truck to get up. We didn’t know that until they called to say that they couldn’t get up there and asked if we could bring the cars down. Then, they walked around the vehicles, took pictures, noted any dings or dents as they went, and they emailed us the bill of lading which had all of the information and photos attached. From the Los Angeles area to Sarasota, the transport was supposed to take 5 to 10 days, and it took 2. Two guys did the transport and they drove all night long. It was crazy.”
“Sherpa subcontracted the job with another company so I was dealing directly with that company. He was great and very communicative. He told me when he arrived to pick up the car. They also had to hold on to the car for a couple of days because I was accommodating them. They asked to pick it up early and I agreed but I didn’t have the money until the following Friday so they had to hold on to it for a couple of days. And I saw it was just in a locked lot so I was happy. Then they delivered when they said they would. So I was very happy with them and I would totally use them again. My brother-in-law was nervous about shipping his Tesla, but it has cameras all around it so we saw it when it was on the road and when the driver pulled over. We also saw how bad the road conditions were and that the guy pulled over in California here. This shipping company was from Denver and I needed to go through Sherpa to get them because Sherpa was the one that has the good rating with the Better Business Bureau. In the end, I got exactly what I wanted and my car was safe. I felt secure with them, too.”
“Sherpa’s pricing was very competitive, and the little extra was throwing in the free carwash at the end of the trip. I contacted them to see if they met my schedule. It seemed like they were able to line up pretty closely to the schedule. I was impressed with the rep that I initially spoke to. I didn’t need to call on him for urgent needs, but it sounded like he would be there if I needed guidance or assistance. He gave me a direct number and said, “If you need anything, just give me a call.” Sherpa had a small provider pick the vehicle up and take it to the larger vehicle. The guy was nice and punctual. He took very good care of getting the car on his trailer and towing it off. As far as that point, I was happy. They gave my daughter a call when they said they were going to call back. So my daughter ended up having the number of the driver. She’s in the Coast Guard. She wanted to make sure she was going to be available because she has to get approval to be gone from the workspace. So she was in communication with the driver and that all went perfectly.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Rancho Santa Margarita, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of California. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
