Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.

  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all of shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Yuma customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“The communication was amazing. I was supposed to ship my car some time this week, but emergency came up and I had to ship it early for my girlfriend out in Florida to use my car. I called them and the rep was able to get my car picked up two weeks early. She told me there wasn’t an extra charge. I kept calling her three more times afterward to keep coordinating with her. She was pleasant and more than willing to help.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Sherpa gave me the best service and the best price. I had a truck break down in Arizona on the way to Tennessee. I had it fixed in Arizona, and we needed it to get to Tennessee without me going back and forth. Sherpa had the truck picked up in Arizona for me. There were a couple little hiccups, but the company they contracted with handled it, and three days later, I had my truck here. It happened quick, and it worked out good. I’d tell friends, “I had a good experience with them,” and I’d definitely recommend them.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“I was moving a car from Arizona to Washington and I looked for somebody online. My also daughter did a little investigating and Sherpa had the best review, which was why we went with them. The transport and the delivery went well. I scheduled ahead of time, so the process took about three weeks total. It only took about five days to get the car there though.”

  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues during transport.
  • Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can lead to better options and potential savings. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of less busy shipping times.

When relocating to or from Yuma, AZ, there are several important factors to consider regarding your vehicle and the moving process. For car shipping to Yuma, it’s crucial to be aware of Arizona’s vehicle requirements. Arizona doesn’t have a state vehicle inspection program, but emissions testing is required in certain counties (Yuma County is exempt). When registering your vehicle in Arizona, you’ll need to provide proof of insurance, your driver’s license, and the vehicle title.

Yuma’s unique climate, with its hot, dry summers, can affect your vehicle. Before shipping your car to Yuma, consider having your air conditioning system checked and ensure your coolant levels are adequate. For those moving away from Yuma, remember to remove any parking passes or toll transponders to avoid unnecessary charges.

When settling in Yuma, you’ll need to set up utilities. Arizona Public Service (APS) is the primary electricity provider, while the City of Yuma manages water services. For internet, providers like Cox and CenturyLink offer service in the area. Don’t forget to update your voter registration and, if you have children, enroll them in the Yuma Elementary School District or Yuma Union High School District.

If you’re leaving Yuma, remember to:

  • Forward your mail to your new address
  • Cancel local memberships (gym, library, etc.)
  • Notify your employer and update your address with banks and credit card companies

For those using auto transport services, be aware that Yuma’s location near the Mexican border may require additional documentation. When choosing a car shipping company, ensure they’re familiar with the region’s regulations. Whether you’re shipping a car to or from Yuma, understanding these local nuances will help ensure a smooth transition to your new home.

Yuma, Arizona Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Yuma?

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Yuma?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Yuma?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

Reviews from our Arizona Customers

We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Arizona customers:

“The experience with Sherpa was wonderful. We contacted different auto transport companies. Sherpa answered a bunch of questions I had that other people couldn`t answer. They were competitive in their pricing too. It was less than I thought it was going to be. When you look at the bad reviews of different companies, you always find out that it`s a bait-and-switch price thing. It scares you a little bit. But Sherpa`s price guarantee alleviated a lot of that. Within a half hour of agreeing with Sherpa, they had a driver assigned. The driver called me up the day before. He told me he was likely to make it out the next morning, but there was a chance he would be there that night and asked if that would be a problem. I told him it wouldn`t be. They picked up the car earlier than we had expected. But we were prepared to do it. The driver was pleasant. He was able to communicate and got the car off the truck. The car came three days before it was anticipated. The driver called the day before to let me know and pinpointed a time. Around that time, he called me up and asked if I could meet him at his location which I did. The car came off perfectly. I`m very happy with their services. When you read about these types of companies that are middlemen like Sherpa, it`s a scary process `cause you hear all kinds of horror stories. But Sherpa was able to relax me, calm me down, and had a flawless pick-up and delivery. The group that Sherpa contracted with was a company called Umbrella. Through emails and communications with both Umbrella and Sherpa, I had the driver`s contact information the whole time. I was clearly led through perfectly. They allowed us extra weight in the car, but we didn`t need any of it. I was floored with how well things went, especially when you consider the weather patterns that were going through East Coast and through the Midwest in early January. Instead of taking the north route, they took the south route through Texas and Arizona.”

“Despite the horror stories you can find online I have found that auto shipping is generally reliable if you do your research and don`t go just for price. I have shipped three times now, two times across country and the service was good with the other carrier, Sherpa was excellent. The online process is easy and professional for the industry. The paperwork and disclosures were all straight forward and timely. Everything is straight to email. One slight difference is you pay for shipping in two parts and the second part did not offer a credit card option. The shipper S&N Trucking was A+++ fantastic. I was very happy with his profesionalism and communication through out the job. He navigated far more precisely than I`ve seen before and never kept me waiting. During my shipment a bad weather pattern started across the states causing a 50 car pile up around Arizona. This driver was monitoring weather constantly, and was able to navigate past the accident that stopped our house movers by 3 days. Just an aside, I was extremely stressed and appreciated Will in dispatch patience. I was trying to make a flight and did not anticipate the trouble we would have getting a truck to drive to our small town, but Will did not give up till we found a solution. We were going through a tough time with this move and sustained a big hit when our house movers got into a wreck. I was nervous to ship cars in bad weather already, but then when I couldn`t find a truck I got panicky. I felt safe with the drivers experience immediately and Will finding a solution made a difference. When you work in customer service you never know when a small kindness will make a big impact on a strangers life. Thanks, Shaunna”

“Talking to the Sherpa agent, I was more comfortable. They were thorough and answered all my questions. There was a price difference, too. I liked the driver. He`s a good guy. He told me what he was going to do, and then I told him where would be a good place to drop off the vehicle, and there was always that communication. So, he did a good job. My vehicle was the same shape as when he took it. When I got the call back from Sherpa about them not getting anybody to pick up the contract and the gentleman had said that it was gonna be between Sunday and Tuesday, I said, “It can`t be Tuesday. My wife and I are leaving, which means there`ll be nobody here to give you the keys to the car.” They found someone right away. It was a gentleman here from Arizona that picked up the contract. So, someone did some legwork to find someone to pick it up. I was under the impression that it was going to be an outside carrier, but it ended up turning this gentleman had his own enclosed trailer. So, it was doubly nice.”

“Sherpa Auto Transport shipped my car from AZ to DE, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I did extensive research and landed on 4 major transports. Gary at Sherpa explained the entire process and what I can expect before and during shipping to my full liking over the other big 3. Plus their price was competitive, and they offer a price lock. I informed them the available pick up dates, and they found a driver for me within 2-days, the first of my available pickups. Their pickup and delivery windows were also reasonable, 2 hours for both occasions during my experience. Now, if only more companies could have more reasonable windows. Sherpa hooked me up with a driver from Star Group Transport who was friendly and professional and delivered the car 2-days in advance of the initial delivery date. Note delivery dates are not guaranteed, but I was flexible on delivery. Their driver dispatch gave me a 24hour heads up on the delivery date and a delivery time window the following morning, so it worked out perfectly. All in all a great experience.”

“The gal I talked to at Sherpa Auto Transport walked me through the transport and was super nice. The driver was from California, and he was getting back to California. He didn`t know about this Kentucky weather, but everything went well. He picked the car up on Wednesday night. But he had a motorcycle and a Mercedes too. He dropped the motorcycle in Alabama, dropped the Mercedes in Tennessee, and came north on 75 and dropped my car off. I got it on Tuesday morning. He had four more days, but he rolled in here. He was nice and good. I`m 100% satisfied.”

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Yuma, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Arizona. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Fun Facts About Car Shipping

  1. The first semi-truck was invented in 1898 by Alexander Winton to transport cars from his Cleveland-based Winton Motor Carriage Company. He wanted a way to deliver cars to customers without adding miles to the vehicles. [Source: Institute for Transportation, Iowa State University]
  2. Modern car carriers can transport up to 12 vehicles at a time. This design, which has evolved over decades, helps reduce the number of trips needed, thereby lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  3. Hydraulic systems used in car carriers allow the trailers to be raised or lowered, making it easier and safer to load and unload vehicles. This feature is now standard in many auto transport trucks. [Source: Tempus Logix]
  4. The “head rack” design—which allows an extra car to be transported above the truck’s cab—was first introduced in the 1960s. This innovation maximized the number of vehicles that could be shipped on a single truck without extending its length. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
  6. Auto transport trucks can have fuel tanks that hold up to 300 gallons of diesel, allowing them to travel over 2,000 miles without needing to refuel. This is crucial for long-haul routes, ensuring continuous operation with minimal stops. [Source: Diesel Technology Forum]
  7. Some modern car carriers are made of lightweight aluminum, which reduces the trailer’s weight by up to 3,000 pounds compared to steel. This allows for greater fuel efficiency and payload capacity, meaning carriers can transport more cars with less fuel. [Source: Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering]
