Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all of shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Sierra Vista customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Excellent communication with Sherpa staff and the driver of the transporter. Price did not change even though the pickup date changed. Vehicle was in perfect shape when it arrived. Couldn`t recommend more for transporting a vehicle from CT to Arizona.”

Google
★★★★★

“Despite the horror stories you can find online I have found that auto shipping is generally reliable if you do your research and don`t go just for price. I have shipped three times now, two times across country and the service was good with the other carrier, Sherpa was excellent. The online process is easy and professional for the industry. The paperwork and disclosures were all straight forward and timely. Everything is straight to email. One slight difference is you pay for shipping in two parts and the second part did not offer a credit card option. The shipper S&N Trucking was A+++ fantastic. I was very happy with his profesionalism and communication through out the job. He navigated far more precisely than I`ve seen before and never kept me waiting. During my shipment a bad weather pattern started across the states causing a 50 car pile up around Arizona. This driver was monitoring weather constantly, and was able to navigate past the accident that stopped our house movers by 3 days.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“I read the Better Business Bureau reports and Sherpa was at the top. I’m a senior, so I looked at a few senior sites and Sherpa was recommended by one of the sites that I looked at. I called them and they were pretty straightforward. They weren’t the lowest price but they had a promised guarantee stating that it would only be a certain price and they guaranteed $300 over. I have a Kia and I was having it transported from Southern Arizona to Sebring, Florida. What Sherpa does is they put the bid out and different transport companies then bid on that.”

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: Sierra Vista’s location in southeastern Arizona affects shipping costs. Longer distances, like transporting a car from the East Coast, will be more expensive than shorter routes within the Southwest.
  • Transport Type: Open car carriers are the most common and affordable option for auto transport to Sierra Vista. Enclosed trailers offer extra protection but cost about 50% more and may have longer transit times.
  • Pickup/Delivery Locations: Sierra Vista’s proximity to Tucson (about 75 miles north via AZ-90 and I-10) can affect pricing. Pickup or delivery in Tucson may be cheaper than directly in Sierra Vista due to better carrier availability on major routes.
  • Timing: Sierra Vista’s hot summers can impact car shipping. Prices may be higher during peak summer months when demand increases. Winter can offer more affordable rates for auto transport to this region.
  • Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles like trucks or SUVs common in Sierra Vista’s outdoor-oriented community will cost more to ship than compact cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
  • Vehicle Condition: Non-running cars cost more to transport as they require special equipment to load. Ensure your vehicle is in working order to keep car shipping costs down.
  • Flexibility: Being flexible with pickup dates can lower your auto transport costs to Sierra Vista. Consider a wider pickup window if your schedule allows.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Sierra Vista car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
  • Choose open transport: Open car shipping is generally more affordable than enclosed transport. It offers greater flexibility for negotiating lower rates.
  • Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find locations near major highways like I-10 or State Route 90. This can reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your price.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues during transport.
  • Be flexible: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates. Consider locations slightly outside Sierra Vista if it means significant savings.
  • Opt for off-peak seasons: Car shipping to or from Sierra Vista, AZ may be cheaper during less busy times of the year, typically avoiding summer and holidays.
  • Consider door-to-terminal: While Sherpa specializes in door-to-door service, choosing to drop off or pick up your vehicle at a nearby terminal might offer some savings.

For Sierra Vista car shipping, consider factors like the desert climate and distance from major highways.

When moving to or from Sierra Vista, AZ, there are several important aspects to consider regarding vehicle transport and local regulations. Sierra Vista car shipping can be a breeze with the right preparation. Arizona doesn’t have toll roads, so there’s no need to worry about removing toll readers. However, vehicle registration is crucial. New residents must register their vehicles within 15 days of establishing residency. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) handles vehicle registrations, and you’ll need to provide proof of insurance, a valid ID, and your vehicle’s title.

Sierra Vista’s climate is semi-arid, with hot summers and mild winters. When shipping a car to this area, consider protective measures against sun damage and dust. For utilities, Sierra Vista residents rely on Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative for electricity and the City of Sierra Vista for water services. Internet providers include Cox Communications and CenturyLink. When moving, don’t forget to set up these essential services in advance.

Other important tasks when relocating include:

  • Updating your voter registration

Sierra Vista, Arizona Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Sierra Vista?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Sierra Vista. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Sierra Vista?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Sierra Vista?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Sierra Vista?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Sierra Vista

When planning car shipping to or from Sierra Vista, AZ, it’s crucial to consider the unique seasonal factors that can impact your auto transport experience. Sierra Vista’s climate is characterized by hot summers and mild winters, which can affect your car shipping strategy throughout the year.

During the summer months (June to September), temperatures in Sierra Vista can soar above 90°F. If you’re shipping a car during this time, consider these tips:

  • Place a sunshade under your car’s windshield to protect the interior from intense heat.
  • Remove any heat-sensitive items from your vehicle to prevent melting or damage.
  • Schedule your car transport for early morning or evening to avoid the hottest parts of the day.

Winter in Sierra Vista is generally mild, but occasional frost and light snow can occur. When shipping a car during winter months:

  • Ensure your vehicle is equipped with all-season tires, as snow chains are not allowed during transport.
  • Choose pickup and drop-off locations on level ground to prevent issues with icy surfaces.
  • Remove any liquids that might freeze and expand, potentially causing damage.

Additionally, the “snowbird” season (typically October to April) can impact car shipping availability and rates as retirees move to and from warmer climates.

To ensure a smooth car shipping experience in Sierra Vista, consider booking your auto transport a few weeks before or after these peak times. By planning ahead and considering these seasonal factors, you can make your Sierra Vista car shipping process more efficient and cost-effective.

“We thought we’d transport a car. I was scared to death of the idea. I read all the horror stories – cars falling off trucks, cars coming full of mud, dents, whatever. I researched the heck out of it. I went through 15 transports, and read their stuff online. Sherpa`s presentation online was good. It was convincing. It was humble in the sense of the reality of the whole car transport business. The fact that you`re not dealing initially with the driver, you`re dealing with a broker. Most people are not familiar with doing this and don`t understand the difference between a trucker and a broker. That`s the scary part. And that`s what Sherpa covered so well. And in service, I never had to sit on hold with them if I had a question. It was the same with talking to the truckers. They were very cool and sharp, and they did the job. The car was picked up exactly where and when we expected. The two young drivers were neat. They shuffled the cars around to get them in the order they needed them. We watched them do it very carefully in moving cars in and out. And off they went. It disappeared in Phoenix, Arizona. Our family members were here already in Michigan when the car arrived. It arrived at exactly the right time. A family of ours picked the car up. The driver called ahead, said, “Here`s when we expect to be there.†Rolled the car off the truck. And with the most thorough examination, it was obvious the car suffered no damage, no dents. It was no worse for wear at all.”

“A dear friend of ours was T-boned in an accident that was not her fault. She lost her 2004 car and was seriously injured. She ended up with NO CAR and having to go to so many medical appointments afterward. She lives in Illinois and we`re in Arizona. We had a 2013 KIA Sorrento and in our 70`s, and we didn`t need two cars. So, it was sitting. We decided to try and get it to her. We took Sherpa because I have a great love of the Tibetan culture. Patrick, our broker, was wonderful, detailed and sincere. We felt the price to transport it was fair to all. ** out of Tennessee, took our bid. John, the senior driver and his assistant, Aaron, were on the phone to us letting us know when they`d be in our area. We met them at a Walmart parking lot. WHAT FUN!!! I have never laughed so much in a long time, and with the pandemic, laughter is a rare commodity. These truckers were knights and their “horse” was their truck. John said they`d be at our friend`s doorstep in 22 hours! Amazing, but I forgot, these two can drive 24 hours a day if they want with a sleeper in the truck.”

“I chose Sherpa to transport a vehicle from Massachusetts to Arizona because of their high ratings, and their high ranking on a number of websites that rated auto transport services. Sherpa did not disappoint! Their representatives located a carrier within a day of my request; however, the carrier did not show or call the on the day they were supposed to pick up my vehicle (through no fault of Sherpa). I immediately contacted Sherpa and the representative that I spoke with sincerely apologized stating they have used this particular carrier in the past with no issues. Within a few hours, not only did the Sherpa staff locate a new carrier, but the carrier was at my house to pick up the vehicle within three hours!! The new carrier`s driver was extremely professional, courteous, and flexible as I was not at home when he arrived. My car was delivered to Arizona sooner than I expected and in the same condition that it was in when it left Massachusetts. I am extremely impressed with Sherpa`s customer service, and professional staff!! They went out of the way to ensure that I had a positive experience. I will not hesitate in using Sherpa again, and give them a resounding five out of five stars!”

“Sherpa Auto Transport shipped my car from AZ to DE, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I did extensive research and landed on 4 major transports. Gary at Sherpa explained the entire process and what I can expect before and during shipping to my full liking over the other big 3. Plus their price was competitive, and they offer a price lock. I informed them the available pick up dates, and they found a driver for me within 2-days, the first of my available pickups. Their pickup and delivery windows were also reasonable, 2 hours for both occasions during my experience. Now, if only more companies could have more reasonable windows. Sherpa hooked me up with a driver from Star Group Transport who was friendly and professional and delivered the car 2-days in advance of the initial delivery date. Note delivery dates are not guaranteed, but I was flexible on delivery. Their driver dispatch gave me a 24hour heads up on the delivery date and a delivery time window the following morning, so it worked out perfectly. All in all a great experience.”

What is Auto Transport? Icon

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Sierra Vista, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Arizona. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Fun Facts About Car Shipping

  4. The “head rack” design—which allows an extra car to be transported above the truck’s cab—was first introduced in the 1960s. This innovation maximized the number of vehicles that could be shipped on a single truck without extending its length. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
  6. Auto transport trucks can have fuel tanks that hold up to 300 gallons of diesel, allowing them to travel over 2,000 miles without needing to refuel. This is crucial for long-haul routes, ensuring continuous operation with minimal stops. [Source: Diesel Technology Forum]
  7. Some modern car carriers are made of lightweight aluminum, which reduces the trailer’s weight by up to 3,000 pounds compared to steel.
