What our Florida customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

"At two different times, I spoke to two people who were both very helpful and knowledgeable. Price-wise, Sherpa Auto Transport was the same as everyone. They were all within the same ballpark of each other. But I felt they were more comfortable after speaking to them. Also, I could see why they had the reviews because they were exactly like it was when talking to them. And everything was smooth. They offered a free car wash. Everything was wonderful. I submitted the thing through online, and they sent an email back with the quote. It was a day later, they called to go over a couple of things. I'm in South Florida and the car would go to Boston, and the tires in Florida were not the type of tires I need for winter up north."

"It didn't take me too long to get my date I wanted to sent my car from Crestview, Florida to Denver Colorado. I gave Shane the date May 23rd I asked for and the driver arrived on that day I asked for. The dispatcher from the company assigned for me were incredible, the lady dispatcher were on top of informing me on date when the driver will come to pick my car. Also I've been receiving email from Sherpa information about facts what to expect during the time I will get the car till it arrived to my son's place. The drivers they hired were so experienced and courteous as well as the dispatcher."

"Just used them to transport my mom's old 1993 Del Sol from Inverness, FL to Pittsburgh, PA. Created the request on Sat 7 Oct. Same day I received confirmation of the booking and price (lower than the other companies I contacted). Received an email on Sun 8 Oct that they were still searching for a driver. On Mon 9 Oct, I received an email indicating a driver was located. At 3 PM I received a call informing me the driver would like to pick up at 6 PM the same day. Wow that was quick."

Factors that affect Florida Car Shipping Prices

  • Distance: Florida's location at the southeastern tip of the U.S. means longer distances for many shipments, affecting costs. Shipping to or from Miami versus Jacksonville can have significant price differences due to the extra 350 miles.
  • Route: Florida's major highways like I-95, I-75, and I-10 are popular routes, potentially lowering costs. However, shipping to the Florida Keys or remote areas may increase prices due to limited access.
  • Season: Florida's popularity as a snowbird destination causes price fluctuations. Expect higher rates during winter months when demand peaks, and potentially lower rates in summer.
  • Weather: Florida's hurricane season (June to November) can impact shipping. While rare, severe weather may cause delays or reroutes, potentially affecting costs.
  • Vehicle Type: Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks cost more to ship due to their size and weight. Florida's flat terrain doesn't typically add extra challenges for larger vehicles.
  • Transport Method: Open transport is the most common and cost-effective option for Florida routes. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, may be considered for high-value vehicles to protect from Florida's intense sun or potential tropical storms.
  • Timeframe: Flexible pickup and delivery dates can lead to better rates. Rush services for quick Florida relocations will increase costs.
  • Vehicle Condition: Non-running vehicles cost more to ship as they require special equipment. This is especially important in Florida where salt air can affect vehicle condition.

Understanding these factors can help you plan and budget for your Florida auto transport needs. For a more detailed breakdown of costs, check out our car shipping calculator guide. If you're considering enclosed transport for your valuable vehicle, learn more about open vs. enclosed car shipping options.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your shipment at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles from the same area.
  • Choose open transport: Open shipping offers the lowest rates and greatest flexibility for negotiating prices. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport is generally more cost-effective.
  • Consider location: Discuss pickup and drop-off points with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-95, I-75, or I-4. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and overall shipping expenses.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues. Remember, car shipping companies aren't responsible for items left in the vehicle.
  • Be flexible: Offering flexibility in pickup and delivery dates can lead to better options and potential savings. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of more cost-effective transport times.
  • Utilize Sherpa's expertise: Our experienced advisors can provide personalized consultations to help you navigate Florida's unique transport landscape, from dealing with seasonal traffic patterns to finding the most efficient routes across the Sunshine State.

How does Florida Car Shipping Work?

Navigating the car shipping process to or from Florida doesn't have to be complicated. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth experience:

  • Get an instant quote: Start by obtaining a car shipping quote from a trusted provider like Sherpa Auto Transport. This will give you an idea of the cost based on factors such as your vehicle's details, pickup and delivery locations, and preferred shipping method.
  • Book your shipment: Once you're satisfied with the quote, lock in your shipment. With Sherpa, you'll receive pickup and delivery windows, and nothing is due upfront.
  • Prepare your vehicle: Before the pickup date, wash your car thoroughly. This is especially important in Florida, where salt air and frequent rain can leave residue. Inspect for existing damage, remove personal items, and ensure your car is in good working condition.
  • Meet the carrier: Sherpa provides door-to-door transport, so you'll meet the carrier as close to your specified address as possible. In Florida, this could be right at your home or a nearby parking lot, depending on local restrictions.
  • Track your shipment: While your vehicle is in transit, Sherpa will provide updates. Keep in mind that Florida's extensive highway system, including I-95, I-75, and I-4, allows for efficient transport across the state.
  • Receive your vehicle: Upon arrival, inspect your car and pay the remaining balance.

When shipping to or from Florida, consider these local factors:

  • Weather conditions: Florida's hot, humid climate and occasional severe weather (like hurricanes) can impact shipping schedules. Be flexible with your timeline, especially during hurricane season (June to November).
  • Popular routes: Florida is a hub for snowbirds and retirees, making it a busy auto transport destination. Book early, especially for winter moves, to secure your preferred dates.
  • Vehicle protection: Consider enclosed transport to shield your car from Florida's intense sun, salt air, and potential tropical storms.
  • Local regulations: Be aware of any specific requirements for vehicles entering Florida, such as emissions standards or insurance requirements.

By following these steps and considering Florida's unique aspects, you'll be well-prepared for a successful auto transport experience. Remember, working with a reputable company like Sherpa Auto Transport can make the process even smoother, ensuring your vehicle arrives safely at its Florida destination or departs the Sunshine State without a hitch.

A Local Guide to Vehicle Transportion in Florida

When moving to or from Florida, there are several vehicle-related considerations to keep in mind. First, let's talk about toll roads. Florida uses the SunPass system for electronic toll collection. If you're moving away, remember to remove your SunPass transponder to avoid unexpected charges. For those moving to Florida, consider getting a SunPass for convenient travel on the state's numerous toll roads.

Florida doesn't require annual vehicle inspections, but your car must meet basic safety standards. When registering your vehicle, you'll need to provide proof of insurance and complete a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) verification. This can be done at your local DMV or by a law enforcement officer.

Speaking of registration, new Florida residents must register their vehicles within 30 days of establishing residency. You'll need to visit a local tax collector's office with your out-of-state title, proof of insurance, and identification. Don't forget to update your driver's license too!

Now, let's cover some general moving tips. When settling in Florida, you'll need to set up utilities. Major providers include Florida Power & Light for electricity and local water utilities vary by city. For internet, popular options are Xfinity, AT&T, and Spectrum.

To become a registered voter in Florida, visit the Florida Department of State website or your county Supervisor of Elections office. For families, research school districts and enroll your children as soon as possible. Don't forget to get library cards - they're a great resource in your new community!

If you're leaving Florida, remember to forward your mail, cancel local memberships, and notify your current utility providers. It's also wise to inform your bank and credit card companies of your move.

Lastly, consider Florida's unique climate when planning your move. The Sunshine State lives up to its name with hot, humid summers and mild winters. If you're moving during summer, start early to beat the heat. Be prepared for afternoon thunderstorms, especially from June to September. When driving, be cautious on major highways like I-95, I-75, and I-4, which can get congested, particularly during tourist seasons.
